Leadership Awards

  • The Paddlesport Leader is aimed at paddlers who wish to lead groups of mixed craft on both wind affected and slow moving sheltered water.

    The paddlesport leader training will support you in your development of leadership skills, personal skills and safety and rescue skills required to lead in sheltered water.

  • The Paddlesport Touring Leader Award enables you to lead fun, safe and enjoyable trips on moderate inland water for mixed craft.
    This is an award we are really excited about, giving you a remit to lead on open water in up to force 4 winds and on grade 1 rivers with short simple sections of grade 2!

  • The Whitewater Kayak Leader Award shows you have the personal skill level to lead a group of up to six paddlers on moderate whitewater, Grade 2/3.

    The Whitewater kayak leader course will take a look at the leadership skills, and the associated personal skills, safety and rescue skills to lead in this environment.

  • The Canoe White Water Leader Award shows you have the personal skill level required to lead a group of up to four solo canoe paddlers or three tandem canoe crews. This is in moderate white defined as grade 2 (3).

  • The Canoe Open Water Leader Award shows you have the personal skill level required to lead a group of up to four solo canoe paddlers or three tandem canoe crews. This is on moderate inland water which is defined as large areas of open water no more than 500m from the side in winds up to Force 4.

  • The Advanced White Water Canoe Leader provides you with the skills needed to lead others on grade 3 (4) whitewater. The course will help you to develop the leadership and safety skills to lead in this environment whilst developing your personal paddling too.

  • The Advanced Open Water Canoe Leader provides you with the skills needed to lead others on large areas of open water which exceed Moderate Inland Water in winds in excess of Beaufort force 4. The course will help you to develop the leadership and safety skills to lead in this environment whilst developing your personal paddling too.

Coach Awards

  • We believe there is nothing better than sharing your passion for paddling with others, knowing of the journey and where paddling can take them. Seeing the enjoyment people gain from achieving goals and knowing that you have played a part in them getting there is an amazing thing.

    If you want to help paddlers develop, coaching them in the environment you are happy and qualified to lead in/on then the coach award is for you.

    The first step is to make sure you have the right level of skill or leadership award in that environment for example a White Water Canoe Leader could access the White Water Canoe Coach Training or a Sheltered Water coach would be required to hold an Explore Award or suitable skill level.

    The next stage is to do a two-day Core Coach Training to learn the coaching theory of Who, What and How of coaching before then learning to apply it on your discipline specific training.

  • The Canoe Award endorses your skill, judgment and decision making when journeying. You will be confident in planning and undertaking canoe journeys on the water in winds up to and including force 3 taking place on grade 1 rivers with simple eddy lines.

    This is a two day training and assessment with one day on open water and one day on slightly moving water.

  • The White Water Award endorses your skill, judgment and decision making to ensure a successful day on rivers up to grade 2. You will be confident in planning and undertaking journeys on moving water with proficient skills to be in control throughout.

  • The Progressive Canoe Award endorses your personal skills and ability to apply appropriate decision making skills for a safe day out canoeing on grade 2(3) rivers and large areas of open water. On open inland water, you might be up to 500m from shore and in winds up to and including force 4.

    This is a two day training and assessment.

  • The Progressive White Water Award endorses your judgment, decision making and expertise and requires a good understanding of paddling on grade 3-4 rivers. You should be confident planning and undertaking journeys on a variety of white water rivers. Your confidence should be based upon both proficiency in skills and a broad appreciation of surroundings and environmental context.
