Canoe Award

The Canoe Award

The Canoe Award endorses your skill, judgment and decision making when journeying. You will be confident in planning and undertaking canoe journeys on the water in winds up to and including force 3 taking place on grade 1 rivers with simple eddy lines. Your award is a sound basis for building the experience and knowledge associated with the Progressive Canoe Award.

This is a two day training and assessment with one day on open water and one day on slightly moving water.


British Canoeing Whitewater Award

White water Kayak Award

The White Water Award endorses your skill, judgment and decision making to ensure a successful day on rivers up to grade 2. You will be confident in planning and undertaking journeys on moving water with proficient skills to be in control throughout. Your award should be seen as a sound basis for building the experience and knowledge associated with Progressive White Water Award holders.


Progressive Canoe Award

The Progressive Canoe Award endorses your ability to apply appropriate decision making skills for a safe day out canoeing on grade 2(3) rivers and large areas of open water. On open inland water, you might be up to 500m from shore and in winds up to and including force 4. If travelling on the sea, you would be using sheltered areas, small bays and harbours with the minimal possibility of being blown offshore. When on the sea, you will be happy operating in force 3 winds (force 2 if the wind direction is offshore). This award should be seen as a sound basis for independently building the experience and expertise associated with Advanced Canoe Award holders.

This is a two day training and assessment.


Progressive White Water Award

The Progressive White Water Award endorses your judgment, decision making and expertise and requires a good understanding of paddling on grade 3-4 rivers. You should be confident planning and undertaking journeys on a variety of white water rivers. Your confidence should be based upon both proficiency in skills and a broad appreciation of surroundings and environmental context. Your award should be seen as a sound basis for independently building the experience and expertise associated with Advanced White Water Award holders.

This is a two day training and assessment.


Paddlesport Leader Award

The Paddlesport Leader is aimed at paddlers who wish to lead groups of mixed craft on both wind affected and slow moving sheltered water.

The paddlesport leader training will support you in your development of leadership skills, personal skills and safety and rescue skills required to lead in sheltered water.


Paddlesport Touring Leader Award

The Paddlesport Touring Leader Award is open to all paddlers! The award supports your existing skills and enables you to lead fun, safe and enjoyable trips on moderate inland water for mixed craft.
This is an award we are really excited about giving you a remit to lead on open water in up to force 4 winds and on grade 1 rivers with short simple sections of grade 2!


Whitewater Kayak Leader

Whitewater Kayak Leader

The British Canoeing Whitewater Kayak Leader Award shows you have the personal skill level to lead a group of up to six paddlers on moderate whitewater, Grade 2/3.

The Whitewater kayak leader course will take a look at the leadership skills, and the associated personal skills, safety and rescue skills to lead in this environment.

Canoe White Water Leader & Canoe Open Water Leader

The British Canoeing Canoe Leader Award shows you have the personal skill level required to lead a group of up to four solo canoe paddlers or three tandem canoe crews. This is in moderate white water or on moderate inland water.

The Canoe Leader course content emphasises the application of a variety of techniques appropriate for moving water and exposed open water, requiring the paddler to perform appropriate and effective manoeuvres in real situations.


Advanced Canoe Leader
Advanced White Water Canoe Leader & Advanced Open Water Canoe Leader

The British Canoeing Advanced Canoe Leader Award shows you have the personal skill level to lead a group of paddlers on advanced open water or advanced white water.

The Advanced Canoe Leader course content emphasises the application of a variety of techniques appropriate for advanced moving water and advanced open water, requiring the paddler to perform appropriate and effective manoeuvres in real situations.


Paddlesport Safety and Rescue Training

This award is all about keeping safe on your craft in sheltered water venues, this includes canoes, kayaks and stand up paddleboards. So, whether you are paddling with friends or your club, this practical course is packed with safe practical solutions.


White water Safety and rescue training

This course is designed for all paddlers operating in a moderate water environment (grade 2/3) in either canoe or kayak. It is designed to provide you with the skills and know how to deal with incidents and emergencies in a safe and logical manner.
